The role
An international plant genomics and machine-learning company is appointing its first sales professional on the ground in North America, its largest market. The role takes over existing US accounts and builds new business across seed, breeding, ag-biotech and research organizations, with strong scientific and executive support. As the US business grows, the role could lead to a US commercial lead position heading a small team.
What you will do
- Identify, qualify and develop opportunities with seed companies, breeding programs, ag-biotech firms, universities and research institutes
- Sell consultatively, shaping proposals for software, data analysis and machine-learning services with the scientific team
- Take over and grow existing North American accounts as their day-to-day contact
- Represent the company at key breeding and genomics conferences and organize customer visits
- Feed customer needs, competitor moves and pricing signals back to product, marketing and leadership
- Maintain the CRM, report pipeline and forecasts and hit agreed revenue targets
- Build relationships with distribution, technology and academic partners
What you bring
- 5 or more years in business development or technical sales of scientific software, genomics services or ag-biotech solutions
- Track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals with R&D organizations
- Working understanding of plant breeding, genomics or bioinformatics
- Network in the North American seed and breeding industry
- Experience selling data analysis, machine-learning or SaaS products, ideally on subscription, is an advantage
- Degree in plant science, genetics, agronomy, bioinformatics or a related field preferred
- Eligible to work in the US and willing to travel regularly within North America
